Camera Ratings
Detection Range: 10/20
During our testing, we placed the camera at two different locations, both yielding consistent detection results within the 40 to 50 feet range.Speed: 6/10
Although the Dark Ops Pro X 1080 boasts a listed trigger speed of 0.22 seconds, our observations revealed a relatively narrow detection angle and slow video start, leading to frequent instances of animals positioned near the center of the frame when the camera began recording.Accuracy: 8/10
Unlike some other Browning models that often experience out-of-control false triggers under warmer temperatures or even mild winds, this particular model has, so far, shown no signs of excessive false triggers. This may be attributed to its limited detection range and narrow detection angle, which seem to contribute to its improved performance in this aspect.Battery Life: 9/10
As part of the "sub-micro" product line, the Pro X 1080 requires only six batteries. Its battery life is excellent, and even in video mode, the camera proves to be highly efficient, with batteries lasting surprisingly long.Daylight Images: 7/10
The image quality of daytime captures from this camera is slightly above average, although not exceptional. The photos and videos exhibit a degree of graininess, particularly noticeable under mixed light conditions, indicating a limitation in dynamic range. Additionally, the images display low contrast levels and could benefit from increased saturation to enhance overall visual appeal.Lowlight Images: 8/10
Wildlife activity peaks during the dawn and dusk periods, posing a challenge for many trail cameras to capture high-quality images in low-light conditions. Achieving professional-grade results with costlier professional photo equipment remains arduous. The Dark Ops Pro X 1080 manages to perform admirably in these circumstances, surpassing expectations with image quality that is more than satisfactory.Night Images: 8/10
The inclusion of "Dark Ops" in its name signifies the implementation of a no-glow illumination feature. Although this no-glow flash remains imperceptible to most animals, the tradeoff lies in reduced illumination, leading to darker images. Despite these considerations, the Dark Ops variant of the Pro X 1080 performs reasonably well and delivers some of the highest-quality images among cameras equipped with an invisible flash.Design: 14/20
Verdict: 70/100
